Ernesto is right on the edge of hurricane strength as it moves closer to the NC coast. WRAL and WILM are covering this live. Lastest NHC advisory. Updates later.
With the storm picking up strength and projected rainfall amounts ranging from around 3-5 inches in the Triangle and more than 8 inches east of that, the last thing anyone wants to hear is that Ernesto’s forward movement might slow after landfall. This is the Floyd scenerio—a big, wet hurricane that just sat on us.
Like the Gov said: Don’t drive through flooded streets. You don’t know how deep the water is or whether there’s still a road under there.
Update: Jeff Masters has a new post up on Wunderground. He notes that Ernesto is just 1mb shy of what it was at when it went ashore at Hati.
Update: Buoy action
• Frying Pan Shoals
• ILM-3
• Onslow Bay
