Update: Jeff Masters says Beryl intesifying as it crosses the Gulf Stream and points us to a lovely sea temp graphic via NOAA. No evacuations. Video from weather.com guy in Nags Head.
Update: NHC corrects a pronunciation problem in its latest forecast discussion.
THE LAST RECON PASS THROUGH THE CENTER OF BERYL THIS MORNING INDICATED THE PRESSURE HAD DROPPED ANOTHER MILLIBAR DOWN TO 1004 MB. FLIGHT-LEVEL WINDS AT 850 MB WERE 52 KT IN THE EASTERN QUADRANT IN CONVECTION...AND THAT IS THE JUSTIFICATION FOR INCREASING THE INTENSITY TO 40 KT. ALSO...THE CORRECT PRONUNCIATION OF TROPICAL STORM BERYL IS BERLE... LIKE THE LAST NAME OF MILTON BERLE.
Original post: I’ll keep this post for updating about Beryl today. If anything major happens I’ll issue a new post. For now the NHC says it’s wobbled to the left a bit, but should stay offshore.
Here’s the map of the computer models on wunderground and the NHC’s latest discussion. As noted at the end of the discussion, the weather service is keeping the tropical storm advisory up as a precaution. Here’s the hurricane local statement from this am. I expect Beryl will churn up the coast a bit as it churns up the coast—so be safe out there.
